What Toyota Tundra owners report
Owners’ own words; dollar figures are what they reported.
Engine
At 65,000 mile engine died. Just the same as the recall for this truck but mine wasn't in the recall. Since it was over 60,000 miles its not covered by toyota. We have a third party warranty we bought at the dealer that is saying we have to pay $7,000 out of pocket
2023 model-year owner, NHTSA complaint 11690695
My 2022 Tundra on the engine recall list had engine failure due to metal shavings in the oil in april 1st 2024. It had 63,000 miles on it so 3K outside of warranty. Toyota of wichita falls and Toyota corporate told me no know engine issues just bad luck. But according to the recall paper work Toyota knew and was investigating engine issue for over a year before mine blew up.

Transmission / powertrain
Under acceleration the truck hesitates during shifting. Took to dealership and they can’t find anything however it continues intermittently. During speeds on highway it does the same. No codes so the dealership said it would just have to continue until something triggered or became more frequent. To date this continues. Started seeing the random issue around feb 2021
2016 model-year owner, NHTSA complaint 11419066
Transmission or engine has a lag, or dead spot from a complete stop to acceleration, such as leaving a stop light. At times barely noticable, other times it seems the engine is going to die. Dangerous when pulling onto a busy street from a side street. Dealership says "unable to replicate" which is understandable, as it's somewhat intermittent. This appears to be with all Model year 2022 and newer Toyota tundras.

Fuel system
Began experiencing long cranking, difficulty starting, then rough idling. Started researching online and found recalls for 2018 -2019 flex fuel 5.7 tundras. My 2017 is also a flex fuel 5.7 with exactly the same issue. Dealer says 2017 not covered. I had to pay over $2000 to have the fuel pump replaced, ECM reprogrammed. I don’t understand why 2017 was not included in the recall.
2017 model-year owner, NHTSA complaint 11708488
Emissions control pump and valves.it is available for inspection. Truck would only reach 60 mph. Pressing the accelerator further causes the truck to slow down. Yes dealer diagnosed parts that need replacing. Not inspected by manufacturer or others. See dealer for service light would shine at engine startup for two weeks prior to this problem. I don't know if this pertained to this problem.
